Not only is he a banging producer, but his skills as a DJ have been proven when he took Mynt Thursday’s 4^th birthday to a whole new level!

Joining him is one of our favourite ‘Fumb House’ friends; Swick. With releases on Top Billin, Malente’s No Brainer Records and many more, he knows how to get you movin’ your feet!

Knock Knock at the Barking Dog has reached the final stretch of its Summer Series and what better way to finish off a huge season than taking part in the infamous Pako Festa celebrations.

Pako Festa is the biggest event in the Geelong Community with over 10,000 people hitting the streets for the annual celebration! On the 25^th of February, the community and arts festival (…which is in it’s 30^th year) shall incorporate an extravagant street parade featuring around ninety floats and hundreds of performers. Representing forty-five affiliated ethnic communities and around sixty other local groups and organisations. The Barking Dog also throws an annual event as apart of the shenanigans, last year attracting a crowd of 4,000 plus revellers.

This year Australia’s number one DJs and reality show stars the Stafford Brothers shall be joining the party, putting on a performance that will turn the Pako Festa upside down. Accompanying them will be Melbourne favourite Stevie Mink; LTM’s head honcho James Fava, disco lovers Yasumo and Geelong’s very own Circus Circus!

Come one, come all – Make sure you don’t miss out on Geelong’s biggest calendar event.

Playing the same night as one of the world’s biggest DJ/Producers of the moment Oh Snap! – Is a man by the name of Swick. Who may have just gone unnoticed in all the hype. Well, the hype is now here and it’s time to listen up!

A local Melbournian youngster, Swick has already achieved so much in such a short time having his own tracks released on labels No Brainer, Top Billin’ and Sweat It Out! We had the chance to have a little chat with the man and here is what he had to say:

How did you first make the transition from DJ to Producer?

I was always kinda more interested in making music than DJing. I think it’s from watching Purple Rain too many times as a kid, not that it really shows in my music.

You have been down to our fine Mynt Lounge before, how would you describe your previous experiences?

Yeah I came down once with Tranter when he played, it was crazy. Pretty pumped to come down again as I always hear good things!

You are supporting USA powerhouse Oh Snap! What does it mean to be playing alongside a massive international act? Does it put more pressure on you to perform?

Always good to play with internationals something I don’t get to do too often. It’s exciting. Will just do my thing, hopefully it works…

For the people reading at home, what are your thoughts behind the term ‘send it’ – Was it somehow derived from its overuse from some of our locals..?

Haha, Yeah it was! We always made jokes about doing it then we made the perfect track for it, well at least we think so anyway, Haha.

We have noticed you and good friend Tranter have sort of created your own genre ‘Fumb House,’ can you explain what that is and how you came up with it?

Fumb House = Fun & Dumb House Music. Our manager Evet came up with the name but he doesn’t remember coming up with it. So maybe we did. We don’t know but we love Fumb House!

As long as humans have been able to capture images, we have wanted to capture them of ourselves. ‘Selfies’ can be dated back to as early as Leonardo Da Vinci with his ‘Self-portrait in Red Chalk’  from the early 1500’s and probably even earlier than that. From childhood we are encouraged to perform in the act of Selfies; my earliest memory from kindergarten was having to draw a picture of myself.

I would attribute the modernisation of Selfies to the early days of social networking on the once-popular MySpace (RIP). Everyone is guilty of taking at least one ‘mirror-shot’ in his or her time, and if it wasn’t in the mirror it may just have been holding this bad boy out in front of your face.

Influenced by ‘a few older guys like America, The Band, Neil Young, Simon and Garfunkel,’ Evan and The Brave are an all-singing/all-playing quintet out of Sydney. Their first single has seen Triple J rotation and is doing serious play count damage in my iTunes.

The beauty of ‘Lil Monsters’ is the discovery of a new layer of sound with each listen. Playful but stern, the brass crescendos are reminiscent of Lennon’s ‘War Is Over’ and add a degree of mastery to an already magnificent three minutes.

If there were a melodic battle for middle earth – these guys would surely win.

Introducing Polographia a collective of two Sydney lads whom started off as DJ’s, spinning tunes just for fun.

After getting a bit more serious about music and branching off into production they have definitely found their niche in the chill-wave department. They master perfectly the glitchy-groove beats accompanied with nostalgic styled synths and ambient samples that make their music so enjoyable. Creating tunes to rival such genre heavyweights as Toro y Moi and Washed Out, Polographia have managed to craft themselves an acclaimed debut EP that has slyly snuck its way into my lazy Sunday afternoons.
