It was a packed out Workers Club last Friday for Private Life’s ‘Follow The Sun’ single launch. Being the seasoned musicians that they are; Renee and Jamie managed to pull an industry crowd; full of creative and music-aficionados alike. Thnkr and The Neighbourhood Youth playing memorable sets to raise the bar perfectly for Private Life to do their thing!

Note: Judging by the amount of press they’re onto something big. Working the stage comfortably with poise and ease, showing the experience of the band. Their tight sound on stage testament to their skills as musicians, especially being backed by highly-talented session musicians with a vast passion for what they do. Their 45 minute set included tracks Lego, Run Run, Honeymoon, closing with their latest single Follow The Sun; to the disappointment of patrons – that there was no more to follow.

A nice personal touch was added by the homemade limited edition single giveaways on the door, adding to the whole aesthetic of the night. If the single launch is anything to go by, then these guys are on the road to tremendous things…

If you are living a Private Life, it’s time to get out of it and get into theirs.

Recently our favourite female party starters Kolors and LTM’s head guru James Fava took to the skies leaving our great land behind and said hello to Singapore Fashion Week. After getting all the touristy stuff out of the way (shopping, sight seeing, towers…) in a buzzing city alive with faces and fads it was down to business; time for Kolors and J.F to take on Filter Nightclub and their crew.

Alcohol was torrentially flowing amidst a room full of Singapore’s highest of high rollers; fashionistas, entrepreneurs and basically those who know how to party! Kolors dropped a few sneaky Yasumo edits in their roof raising set, while Fava managed to infect the club patrons into doing the Kevin Sheedy (see below), whilst being subdued by giant bottles of vodka.

Yep, it actually happened.

A big shout out to 360 Agency, Filter and Singapore City for what was an unforgettable weekend.

Sampology; no doubt one of Australia’s the world’s best turn-tablists. Crafting his skill into a new kind of art in the form of his audiovisual shows. Taking mash to the next level by not only scratching sounds together, but adding visuals in the mix too. Catering for all the senses! (We’ll let the sweaty mosh pit of the crowd cater for your sense of smell…)

This gig is not to be missed, especially when you throw DJ Prequel into the mix; a night surely to be full of grindin’ hip-hoppin’ and beat boppin’.

Straight off the bat of airing on our Love That Music Radio show (KISS FM 87.6) – we have an exclusive mix from the funky San Diego based duo Geisha Twins! It’s choc full of unreleased tracks and edits and perfect for when you’re feeling a little bit down, or ready to amp up the party!

We were lucky enough to have a little chat to the guys too, so have a read and have a listen, because they’re sure-fire party starters!

Let’s start with the obvious, the name? Geisha Twins, explain…

The name Geisha Twins came about from our youth. Growing up we use to race home after school to watch a segment of Cartoon Network entitled, Toonami. They would license and English dub anime, which was our first exposure to the Japanese culture. From there we fell in love with Samurai Champloo, an anime that takes place in the Edo period of Japan. So one day when we were watching it a Geisha popped up on the screen in an episode and it hit us! From there we added the twins and it just made sense and felt right, haha.

Why Bootie shaking Disco? Are there plans for the Geisha’s sound to evolve and dabble in other genres? Your remix of ‘MSystem’ might state this has already begun. How does your taste and different musical upbringings help to form the Geisha Twins sound?
What makes our music Booty Shakin is the Funk of course! When we first started Geisha Twins our main focus was to only do Disco House and Funky House. With in the one-year we have had this project, our musical taste have grown extremely. Which has led us to experimenting more but retaining our roots in every production of Funk and Disco. Right now we make House music, but we use the term loosely because we dive into the sub genres of House. The ‘Msystem’ remix is a good example of us trying something new like Electro elements but still keeping it Funky.

What do you think it is about the Geisha Twins sound that has made artists like Treasure Fingers, J Paul Ghetto, Andy Murphy and an excess of 5000 fans on social media stand up and boogie on down?
That’s a good question, haha! It’s hard to say but we think we are doing something right with our productions. When we make a track we focus on it smashing a dance floor and making you want to boogie. What is really cool about this Funk and Disco scene is that everyone is very supportive of each other and plays out each other’s tracks.

Your tune ‘Get Down’ was featured exclusively on “Defected” as part of Treasure Fingers Mix Compilation. What were you guys doing when you received this news?

When we got the news we were surprised. We had been talking to Treasure Fingers one day and showed him the track. A few days later we got an email from Defected asking who to contact to license Get Down. It was a jaw dropper for both of us. To this day we are very thankful and loving to the homie Treasure Fingers, for having us be apart of the compilation.

Let’s talk gigs, where have you guys been playing? Have there been any super-cool artists that have caught your eye along the way?
So far we have travelled around California and out of it. Places like San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and just recently New York. We have defiantly met some awesome people along the way; one new artist who had an amazing performance was Kim Ann Foxman. She is one fantastic DJ and the biggest sweet heart you’ll ever meet. We plan on coming to Australia this year, there was talk of it in May but plans fell through.

What is in the pipe works for the Geishas tunes/gigs?
Currently we are just wrapping up a single and two tracks for an EP, along with a remix for Blacksoul.

Finally is there any exclusive info you would like to leak to the LTM crew?
Haha, well we are in the works of some collaborations with Benson, Solidisco, and Mr. Vasovski. All of these artists are fantastic producers, check ‘em out!

ANZAC day was not only a time for remembrance this year – but also a time for some ghetto-homemade-jam. Aka a celebration of all things local and Australian.

It was a particularly crisp day at a hidden warehouse space on the borderline of Collingwood and Abbotsford where the jam took place, an array of beer and scattered couches to set the tone…

A display of everything Melbourne’s underground and unsigned had to offer. As well as a wide variety of entertainment, stalls, markets, graf-artists, BMX bikers and babes on the grill. Literally. Run by the man (and talent) known as Eddie Mac and a music policy stating, ‘Strictly no House’, our boy James Fava doing his thing behind the decks and abiding to the rules. Days highlight: The Psyde Projects (see above and below); these hip-hoppers are set for big things! Also a shout out to Mr. Moonshine and his scratching techniques; putting any aspiring DJ to shame.

In the name of a good cause, (especially on ANZAC day) ALL proceeds raised went to local charity the Prahran City Mission. Now at the bottom of the jar – we can’t wait for another batch of Homemade Jam!
